ATP Science has recently launched ZMST, which is comprised of Zinc, Magnesium, Selenium and Taurine. These nutrients are essential for health and wellbeing, so this new release from ATP is a convenient way to ensure you’re receiving a healthy dose of all of these nutrients.

Modern diets are generally lacking in these nutrients, due to the type of food we eat and also because soils are more depleted than they once were. This means that less ends up in the food we eat.  Deficiencies in zinc, magnesium, selenium and taurine can lead to a variety of disorders, including cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, sleep disorders, mental health problems and even musculoskeletal problems like osteoporosis and muscle aches and pains.

ATP Science has developed ZMST to help you regain normal balance of these ingredients

Ingredients per capsule:

  1. Magnesium Citrate (100mg elemental Magnesium)
  2. Zinc gluconate (2.5mg elemental Zinc)
  3. Organic Selenium Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (6.25mcg elemental selenium)
  4. Taurine 25mg

Ingredient Breakdown:

Magnesium

Magnesium is vital for enzyme activity and energy production. It’s needed for a broad number of reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. It’s required for energy production, bone development and DNA synthesis. It also helps the transportation of other nutrients – such as calcium and potassium – which is essential for the proper functioning of nerves, muscles and the heart. Studies have shown that magnesium is linked to better sleep, with insomnia as a common symptom of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium supports deep sleep by maintaining healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep and relaxation.

Signs of magnesium deficiency include:

  • Poor heart health
  • Weakness
  • Muscle cramps and tremors
  • Nausea and dizziness
  • Anxiety
  • High blood pressure
  • Type II diabetes
  • Fatigue
  • Poor memory and confusion
  • Respiratory issues

Different factors can impact magnesium absorption. Multiple, smaller doses of magnesium promote better absorption, rather than one massive dose which can upset your gut. High doses of some other minerals – such as Zinc - have been shown to inhibit the absorption of magnesium. However, the dosage levels found in ZMST are within the healthy range, meaning that they wont interfere with it’s absorption.

Zinc

Zinc is another important nutrient for the body. The body doesn’t store it which means that it needs to be regularly ingested from food or supplements to maintain adequate levels. It is a structural component in proteins, making it especially important during periods of rapid growth. Zinc is important for critical functions such as pregnancy outcome, physical growth, susceptibility to infection, and neurobehavioral development.

It’s essential for the reproductive process for both men and women. For men, it’s important for healthy sperm and hormone production. In women, it’s essential for a normal and healthy pregnancy, including fetal growth and the efficiency of labour and delivery.

Zinc is also used by the immune system to support wound healing. It helps prevent infection and inflammation. Studies have shown that zinc is necessary for growth and development.

Selenium

Selenium is a trace mineral, and it’s used in different processes in the body. It’s important for the absorption of other minerals. Magnesium and zinc, in particular, require selenium to function properly.

Selenium helps to prevent tissue damage caused by free radicals. It contributes to a variety of different functions in the body, including:

  • Boosting Immunity
  • Antioxidant defence
  • Cardiovascular support
  • Muscle and bone development
  • Detoxification
  • Healthy brain functioning

Taurine

Taurine is the last ingredient in ZMST. It’s one of the most abundant amino acids in the body, and is linked to many different functions in the body that support hearth and neurological health. Taurine can help minimise anxiety and stress by facilitating the production of the neurotransmitter, GABA. By raising GABA levels, your body can better manage anxiety and cortisol levels. Since stress can impact fat loss, taurine can play important role in your body’s ability burn fat. It also does this by contributing to the mobilisation of fat cells, which allows your body to turn fat into energy.

Taurine also has has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect. It helps fight free radicals to keep cells healthy. Studies have also shown that taurine is linked to heart health as it helps lower blood pressure and inflammation.

Taurine is also important for the absorption and regulation of calcium and magnesium. After calcium rushes into cells to activate them, magnesium is released from the cell to switch this off. Once released from the cell, magnesium levels can become depleted. Taurine works with ion channels to hold magnesium in cells to prevent the calcium influx and subsequent magnesium loss. Together taurine and magnesium can have a calming effect, reducing stress and relaxing the body.
